removing interior trim?

hi

started taking all the interior trim and headliner out today, got everything out but the drivers side piece that goes next to the clutch (it has the vent in it)

i was able to get all the screws out, what a pain because 2 were blocked by the e-brake- so i went to pull the piece out and it wouldn't come out, it was held in place by part of the vent

any ideas on how to remove this piece? im puzzled and dont want to apply any force because i didnt want to break it

thanks for the help

There is one WAAAAAY up behind the e-brake.You can actually go over the top of the bracket to get at it. If you got all of the screws, its probly just stuck there good and maybe hanging on the vent door a bit.

Take the e-brake assembly out first. If you dont you will end up breaking the two pieces apart, unless thats okay with you. Shoulndt need to ask how I know this.

How many screws did you get out? The diagram in the FSM shows 6.

The directions are somewhat vague, but it seems you are supposed to remove the panel from the vent, and then the vent from the truck.

The little vent door that slides back and forth in the kick panel will come out with the panel but the rest of the vent will stay in place.

i got all six screws, it seems like the vent itself is stuck to the trim- how do i remove the e-brake, unbolt it from the engine compartment? that will make life easier-ill tackle it tomorrow after school

thanks for the help

When it comes out, it'll kind of swing upwards a bit and come out from the dash/wall joint. There may still be a little rubber gasket on the upper edge of the kick pannel that wedges into that joint. It could also be the vent door itself sticking into the vent door seal ( foam tape kind of stuff). Try cycling the door while swinging the bottom of the panel back and up towards the cab door opening.

The inner structure of the vent is glued to the outer panel making it almost impossible to ge out without breaking it apart, even then if I remember you need to swing the e-brake assy out of the way to remove the inner piece. There are three bolts holding the e-brake assy in, 2 protruding into the engine compartment and one under the dash near the top of the assy kind of hidden. Take the few minutes to take the e-brake out of the way and you will be rewarded with a lesser headache.
