Rebuild interval

Now I see why they rated our engines for a 300K rebuild. It's not because any part of the engine is worn much, it's because they start leaking all over! I have been too tired to pull the front of the engine off (really, too intimidated by the seal positioning) but I really need to. Every time I stop I leave a hazmat superfund site. When it's off, and after all the loose oil has dripped off it doesn't leak, just when it's running.

Talk to mopar4ya or whatever the guys name is on here from Salina, KS. Has 1.3 mill on his truck lol.

Mine doesn't leak anywhere (knocking on wood) and usually the oil does not move down on the stick at all in 5000 miles. Has 220K on it.

What leaks? The 300 k rebuild is for medium trucks and such. 10 ton van body delivery trucks being driven at wot much of the time and subjected to a variety of drivers and conditions. A gas engine put to the same duty is good for maybe 80 k. They should last at least a million miles with reasonable care in our light and little trucks.

The big question is how long the truck can last while the cummins soldiers on?

That IS the question, isn't it...

Mine didn't used to leak noticeably until the oil cooler fiasco. I still have a steady drip there that annoys me no end. when I do the next oil change I am taking that thing out again and having the filter bracket surfaced. I hate that leak!

My wife's 93 corolla seems to lose about 1 quart every 1000 miles, but I'll be darned if I can figure out where it goes. Car runs like a top, no blue smoke ever, and no leaks that I can find anywhere. It never leaves a big oil slick under like my truck does, either. But the oil disappears just the same.

If her car starts getting quieter, the cat is plugged with oil coke. A qt every 1,000 is a lot for a 4 banger, but still within the "Factory" specs.
