Ready to do some performance
Ready to do some performance
I just got into the VE pump engines and am looking for some quick performance. I have three of the trucks, two intercooled and one not. The one that isn't runs better than both the intercooled trucks. Given they are both automatic, but I would still think they should run better than they do. Any little bit of advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I would advise you to get a pyrometer then check out this site: http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/more_power/Power_ve.htm
The 93 intercooled has the same housing as the non intercooled.
I think the non intercooled just seem more responsive when comparing stock to stock because they don't have to push air as far before it goes into the cylinders. This is easily cured with some turns of the screw.

Well I am waiting for the pyrometer and I already picked up 9mm injectors (the injectors are interchangable, I hope). I thought that there was a difference between intercooled and non-intercooled housings, 18 sq. cm. and 21 sq. cm.. Explaining the friggen rediculous turbo lag on the intercooled engines. Is this not true? And as for the automatic, is it a bad idea to crank the pump and do upgrades to get some performance? The 92 has 160K on the factory trans., the 93 on the other hand I just purchased a week ago with 264K (on it's third tranny).

I don't think the injectors are interchangeable. http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/FAQ/turbo_faq.htm
That site has some info on what housing you have. You could also check on your housing. It should say on the side closest to the firewall. The automatic is ok with a few mods, but if you tow I believe a tranny temp gauge is recommended. There are people on here with almost 300 hp going through autos (maybe even more), but I believe after 250 you are pushing it.

Ok, no loss on the injectors because they were free. My '92 & '93 both have 21 cast in the housing and the '90 has 18 cast into it. Now I am sorry to be a pain in the *** but are the housings interchangable between the two turbos. I know the inlet is totally different but can I change just that and use the 18 sq.cm. housing?
