Quick, simple question...

The torque converter should just slide out when pulled off of the engine right? Because mine seems to be super tight and I can't seem to pull it off.

There's four or five bolts that attach the converter to the flex plate (just making sure. )

The converter has a stump maybe an inch and a half in diameter centered and plugged into the flex plate's center. That may be rusty and has a good grip.

I'm assuming you've completely removed the transmission from the engine.

Hey David,
Yes the engine is out in my garage and the last thing on my to do list is the rear main seal. I see the bolts that connect it to the flex plate, but it doesn't look like there is enough room for them to back out between the flexplate and the engine. So I have to undo these bolts first, then take the flexplate off, then get to the rear main? Thanks for your timely response! Trying to get this thing done before dark...=)

There's a rubber plug (about 3:00 in the image. It's for inserting the engine barring tool). Just above it is a removable cover-plate. Remove it and reach through with your socket.

Then you'll see the bolts holding the flex-plate to the crankshaft.

Ok thanks a lot for the pictures. I just got the torque converter and flywheel off but I made an enormous mistake. Not being able to tell what was part of the rear main seal and what wasn't, I broke off a piece of the aluminum cover plate that bolts to the block that the rear crank goes through and the starter bolts on to. Does anyone know how much these run or what exactly this giant plate on the back of the engine is called? I'm going to need a new one....
