simple egt question .........

i dont have gauges yet ( i know guys im planning on it ) im wondering with gauges.....pulling say 8-10,000 lbs up a grade, when floored and egt temps rise how far do u have to back off the throttle to cool down. how long does it take to cool down?? i'd hate to be in a long passing lane and let everybody i just passed go back by. thanks guys, scott

dont let it go past 1200* with 4" exhaust it wont take that long just either up the boost or slow down a lil it shouldnt take that long to cool down. When im towing with the PSD ( i know leave me alone ..at least its a diesel) I run constant 600* at 10psi. The highest i ever got it was 1000* at 20psi with a 8K trailer in 85*F weather.

My 01 will reach 1350* towing 10,000 up a grade if the RPMs fall below 2000. As soon as I get out of it a little, she's back down to 1000. To reach the 1350*, I have to be on it pretty good trying to accelerate. The trick is to keep it wound up in the higher gears so that you are moving lots of cool air through it. Don't try to pull it down and see how low you can get the RPMs. Make sure after running it hard up an incline while towing (or empty for that matter) that you give it a good cool down cycle (minimum of 5 minutes) before shutting the engine off.

To make sure you keep the EGT's under control, if you're flooring it and the truck is slowing down, downshift until the truck can accelerate. When the motor bogs down, the EGT's skyrocket. BTW, did your KDP fall out yet?
