QUICK exhaust ?

im getting my 4in system done tomorrow. and the guy ordered up the wrong system(for a non intercooled) isnt the only diff in the down pipe there is a heat shied right off the top? if so he could just put on the exsisting down pipe that came in the kit he got.

he didnt have my number to call to ask and where they order from the guy only had non intercooled systems in stock.

so my question again... ok to use no heat shield? or should he just put one it?

thanks, jiMMy

I don't think the heat shield is that important. The one from the stock pipe could be put on pretty easily, too. Just weld 4 nuts or some othe kind of spacer to the shield, then weld the assembly to the downpipe.

Personally I think that the heat shield is important. My heat shield is within an inch of the firewall . I had a 4 inch system installed a couple of months ago and made sure to get the heat shield. It should be pretty easy to install the stock shield. Mine was spaced with 3/8 round stock tacked on it's side.

I ordered mine without the downpipe to save the $100. Use your original pipe, its the same diameter as the new one.

ture it woul dhave been cheaper with out the new down pipe. but the old stock system just looked like hell. so i wanted all new exhaust.

Pumpdaddy, if he doesn't take you up on that, and your offer stands, I could use it. Mine has a nice split right at the clamp. If you'd be willing to ship to Mich. of course. I'd buy it off ya.

Also, I need to be able to pull a horse trailer, so straight pipe is not an option. Any tips on an oversize muffler? I don't think they would appreciate freeway speed and no overdrive, with an open exhaust. Especially hitting a hill.

There are a bunch of threads in the 3rd gen forum about Donaldson mufflers for medium duty trucks, you might want to look at those.

Don, I belive It is Southwest brake in the Lansing area that carrys walker, and they have strait thru 3 & 4" mufflers that quiet the exaust nicely. The mufflers are made for turbo diesel engines. They would not quiet a non turbo very well, but do a good job on a turbo engine. I know a lot of auto parts stores can get walker, but have found walker has jacked up the price with some of them. I will have to ask my brother, but I think it was Southwest Brake, they have much better prices on walker. I guess that walker is the main exaust line they carry. My brother has the 3" and at a cruise you hear more engine than exaust, but when steped into you will hear the exaust.

Thanks Paul, but I'm leaning away from free-flow. One of the horses is hard enuff loading the trailer, without knowing he's going to get blasted everytime I pass or hit a hill. Personally, I'd say what the heck and cattle-prod him on, but Karen wouldn't go for that.

Is is possible to run a 5" down pipe, or are we limited with the 4"?
