question for those running 4:10 gears, fast?
planning to build another cummins powered ford crewcab for my wife this fall/winter. truck has 4:10 gears. going to run a 366 governor spring and 35" tires. nearest freeway is 40 miles away so it doesnt have to do 80 mph but i would like 70 +. i had a 1st gen with 4:10 ,s and a getrag,31" tires, stock governor spring, it would only do 65 max pedal to the floor. what are you guys running with 4:10,s to get some top end? i have other axles if i want to regear. truck in my sig has 3:54,s. this truck will have a 518 auto trans, aftermarket t/c. thanks for any responses.
4.10's with an overdrive is about the same final ratio as a 3.08 truck with the 727 3 speed. You will have no issues. I have 4.10's in my 93 ( but with a rag ) and I can do 70 in 4th and about 95 in 5th.
I have 4:10s with the A518 auto stock convertor with the GV od 4x4 stock tires and 96 98 max speed. Tach is not working so not sure of the rpm's but it sounds tight with the stock gov spring.
Gonna be just a driver for the little lady? If that's the case, 4.10's would be a waste. 3.54's or shallower for good on-highway fuel economy. I'm running 3.54's and 315's on my 2nd gen. Thought I'd hate it, but 1750@65 and 21 mpg (on highway) is real nice
