Question about flywheels

I am in the process of putting a 5 speed in my first gen cummins that was an automatic,I know the flywheel is 12 1/4" and i am wanting to get a nice clutch set-up. My first question is i have seen alot of flywheels that are 13" and are supposed to be better, does it require a different starter or spacer?Second question is what is a good brand? I have some mods done to the truck and i will be towing occasionally,Im just looking for any info that might steer me in the right direction. Thanks

No your stock clutch is 13". Don't know what you ended up with.
I Think the southbend comes with both flywheel and clutch assembly.

The brank of clutch and pressure plate i have is luk,its got some life left in it but id rather put new stuff in and not worry about it for awhile. I measured it and it is 12 1/4",and all the websites i have looked at for clutch/flywheel all talk about updated 13'' clutches so i was curious.I am leaning towards southbend and vallair(spelling),they both offer flywheel/clutch combos

Not knowing what you have done to the truck I would still suggest a stock sach. It's a good all around clutch to the high 300's in the hp department.

It has 100 horse injectors, star wheel turned, smoke screw turned,no timing adjustments, holley blue fuel pump.I couldnt keep an automatic in it,clutches kept getting smoked, but i think that was from inproper throttle valve cable adjustment, along with a few burnouts and hookin truck to truck.Thank u for the link and info.

What year truck? 94 and newer came with 12 1/4" clutches. Someone may have cheaped out on a replacement though as you can bolt a 12 1/4" clutch to a 1st gen 13" flywheel.

The guy i got the stuff of had a 93 cummins, but it just dawned on me that the motor he had in it was a 97,he gave me the cluth/flywheel setup off of that so thats probably where the confusion came from.I am leaning towards a southbend clutch, anyone have any pros/cons on this? Thanks for everyones help also

Let me back up a little bit... you mention you're putting a 5-speed in. Is it a NV45 or a Getrag? If the motor you got some parts from is a 97, did you get the adapter as well? In that case you most likely will need a similar year/model starter - unless you go the Advance Adapters route.
As for the clutch, with minor mods and being "nice" with it, a Con-O or FE will do plenty, but then again, if you drive like you stole it... Are you getting new/updated hydraulics too?
I assume your truck is not a 4WD - otherwise you would also have to address the difference between NP205 for auto vs. 5-speed.
A little wiring: backup lights, neutral safety, rid of your OD on/off, etc.

It is a getrag i am putting in,you do have a great point though about the bellhousing,he gave me the one off his truck and im not sure if it is for my block or the 97 block he had in his truck,i havent tried bolting it up yet so i guess i should start there.I am thinking of getting the 450 hp model clutch and flywheel combo from southbend to be on the safe side.My truck is 4x4 and thanks to all the threads here i found out that my np205 from my automatic wont work so i am trying to track down a 29 spline np205.The hydraulics he gave me is fairly new,it had a plug wire on the assembly and found the mate under the dash that was a clip in plug with one wire running into the other end.Thats the only wiring i have done so far.I do know that the setup he was running in his truck he was able to use the bellhousing i now have and a 2wd getrag/with a divorced transfer case. The getrag i have came from another one of my buddies and it is a 4wd unit
