Pulled 16K.

Did some heavy towing last weekend. Grossed 23K with extra parts and tools.

The 12cm was really holding me back. Almost pulled over and unhooked the WG flapper, but figured I just get burned and lose the E-clip.
Backed off at 1100*, ocassionally letting it go to 1200*. Have heard thats the same limit with timing 3/16-1/4". Am I being too cautious?

Noticed a little surge below 2000 rpm and a heavy foot. First time I have pulled something heavy since the new exhaust, love the sound. It's crazy how much the 'ol Cummins torque's the frame!
Might swap the 18.5 back on, do you think it will help the fuel milage any?

What speed were you towing at? What were the boost numbers at that speed?

I like the way the 18.5 housing breathes above 2000 rpm when towing heavy.

Looks like the trailer had extra room after the derby

On the flat I was running 5th. Getting into the hills had to drop to 4th. Not real sure of the exact boost numbers, eyes were glues to the pyro. About 15-20psi just maintaing speed. I ran about 55 in 4th or 65 in 5th. Any slower in 5th and the pyro went way up while speed kept dropping. A few times I just poured to coals to it to get the WG to open (38 psi), the temps were a little better(for a few seconds), but was going way to fast.

with your temps that high it makes me wonder how those slightly modded 2nd gens pull 25k all the time. It still sounds like it pulled pretty good though. I hope I can hook a trailer behind mine one day and see how it does.

I had to turn my fuel pin to the minimum, and back out some fuel when I towed. I had a similar trailer, and usually grossed 25-27k loaded with crushed cars. I dont have an i/c, so that made it basically impossible to run 5th, had to keep my air flowing.

BTW, last derby I ran was 2001, and I havent been to one since I closed the book, however I still have one of the 1st sets of DEC headers, and an original Raptor shifter. Oh well, it was fun over the years
