^ What he said. Light weight is a bonus in drag racing but a detriment in pulling. Of course, if you are pulling in a class that will let you hang weight where you want it, a 1st gen gives you more tuning options for a good hook...
I have a 14 bolt rear and 60 for the front i dont understand the frame part a friend has a scout with a 655 indy motor with stock frame no worries as of yet. also his brother has a 70's f-100 2wd 600 plus inch ford factory trans and frame or is it just the first gen half ton frame thats to worry about/

Sounds like you have the axles covered. If you plan on running suspension stops, I would beef up the frame over the rear axle. The 1/2 tons have a lighter frame that will probably twist a good bit with the VE's torque. Gassers run more rpm's and less TQ.
