PTO cover
I got an extra pto cover so that I can put a temp pickup and an oil fill for the extra oil. Now what side of the cover would be best to drill the holes, the forward or the aft side. I want to put the holes as close to the extream ends as I can. The oil fill at the top and the temp sencer as far to the bottom as I can. The temp sencer will stick into the tranny a little. I just don't want to hit anything with it, or anything to hit it. Thx
Best thing to do would be to pull the PTO cover and look at what you have to avoid. The fill plug will be no problem, you can tap the hole shallow so the plug is flush with the cover if there's something in the way.

PTO Plate
I was wanting to avoid pulling the cover that's why I have a spare. I'm going to have bungs welded to it the fill plug is not the real problem. I'm in Columbus Ga staying at Ft Benning RV camp and I don't have a lot of acess to any kind of shop. Thats why I was asking about this subject. Being on the road all the time you don't have a lot of choices. I really need to know something about what I'm going to do before I get commeted with it. It has to be done in one setting. That's I want everything ready to go when I pull the cover off. there is an auto craft shop here but when I pull the old cover I need to be able to replace it with the new one. Thanks for the advice.
My PTO cover has a short and a 90 degree peice of pipe attached to the fill hole. This makes it real easy to overfill the trans. It is just left there and you put the fill plug in the end of the elbow.
I had my pto cover off but it has been a few moons ago. I think that if you put your temp sensor up about 1 1/2 inch above the bottom bolt holes and 1 1/2 inch back from the front bolt holes you should be OK. As for the fill I would weld a collar onto the cover where ever you want it then drill a hole through the cover plate
