Pros and Cons of compounding a pair of HC1's

This is more of an hypothetical situation. Would there be any use to compounding a set of stock HC1's? Isn't there a setup out there using twin s300's? Seems like there is a possibility of excellent spool...but without any turbo knowledge, what are the cons?

There is a set using two S300s, but they are very different turbos.

If you use identical turbos, there will be no compounding and no benefit.

I guess that would not be called "compounds" but "twins." That is something I have always wondered about also. Wouldn't two turbo's create twice the air? But then would the motor struggle to spool them because there is two of them? Given you would figure a way to split the exhaust gas to spool both turbo's at the same time, kinda like a factory twin turbo car such as a dodge stealth. Just you are using six inline cylinders instead of a v6.

It depends on the plumbing. You can use identical turbos as PARALLEL turbos, but not as COMPOUND.

Parallel turbos are used where you need more air at lower pressure ratios. This is a good idea for large displacement V8s.

But for our engines, we need high pressure ratios, making compounds the way to go. That means you have to use a bigger turbo feeding a smaller one.

Could one use something common like a hx40 to be the first stage turbo. I wonder if it would outflow my setup?

htb3 or s400 26cm would prob work. You can find em new for $650 its just the piping unless you are very handy, that is expensive

Im familiar with the htb3 and s400 as the bottom setup, but was curious how a smaller turbo would affect the dynamics of the compounds. Just for interest you know.
