Preload nuts (axle)
Hey Folks, need a little help here.
I did a search for this but came up empty
. Hopin' someone will know off the top of their head
.
Dana 70 rear end in a 92 D350 comes with nylon locking nuts for bearing preload. What year model Dana 70 came with nut-keeper ring(tab)-lock nut assembly. I had a set come off on the highway, NOT fun. Anyway I would like to change these to the old style, just don't know what years interchange.
All help is appericated.

From what I have had experience with, just about any old Dana 60, or 70, from the mid-eighties back, will have the double-nut/tabbed-washer bearing adjuster nut system that will fit these rears.
My main gripe with the nylon-locking single nut is that they are of a much softer steel than the old nuts, thus letting the bearing eat a groove in the back side, thereby loosening the adjustment, due to the missing metal.
The more the nut wears, the quicker it goes.
I have several various trucks and trailer axles, around here, with the old-style double-nut set-up; I have never had one of these to show the slightest sign of wear.
On the other hand, both trucks in my sig have the single-nut set-up, and all four nuts are worn badly, actually needing replacement; and, as soon as I find the old style, they will get replaced.
