Power steering not working. Known good. Ideas

I just insatalled a power steering box on the 93 club cab. I KNOW for a fact that the pump was working when I pulled it up to the garage it was just leaking out of the box seal real bad. I also know the box I just installed was working fine on the 92 Gasser truck I just removed it from that had only 52K on it. So I know both pieces worked fine. The high pressure hose nut twisted off when being removed so I even installed a new High pressure side hose. I blew air through the hose and checked inside the female portion of the PS box before putting the fitting in. so why does it not work now?? It doesn’t gurgle or anything? Just airbound??? Thanx , Crossy

Did you fill the pump reservoir and then turn the steering wheel lock to lock a few times, then refill the reservoir before you started it? Did you install a filter on the return line in case the used system was contaminated? Any possibility you have the lines reversed going onto the box?

You have air in the system and it needs bleeding.

When we first got it, you couldn't steer the son's truck with three arms; I set both sides on jack-stands and, with the engine off, and the power-steering CAP off, I had the son SLOWLY, VERY SLOWLY, turn the wheels, back and forth, from lock to lock, while I watched and added fluid occassionally.

It is hard to believe how many times the reservoir emptied itself during this process, as the fluid traded places with trapped air.

Once we got this done, you can steer it with one pinky.

you can't reverse the lines, the nuts are different sizes.

2 days ago I sawed the wheel MANY times while on jackstands before i threw in the towel . Last night I tried againand came in to ask this question. let it sit with cap off for 24 hours. . checked tonight and level of fluid was in same place.

went back out tonight and sawed the wheel with cap off and running and it gurgled then WHAM. power steering again! sweeeet.
thanx, crossy
