power steering flush?

I have an older truck that we're flushing the fluid on.. Going from ATF to PS fluid. drained the gearbox and res and added the PS fluid.. it was clear for awhile but now it's red.. this is the second flush and I'm still getting ATF in there. Is there another way to drain this? Will it hurt my borgeson gearbox?

can't you get the gear box to empty itself into the reservoir by manually turning the wheels back and forth with the truck off? then i guess you would refill reservoir and cycle it though couple lock to lock turns with the truck running and front wheels off the ground.

I dont think its that critical, I did mine with a turkey baster and some patience, in fact the "flush machine" we have here at work is nothing more than a pump and a couple of hoses that do essentially the same thing. FWIW a very small amount of atf will color that fluid red.

Smile old threads...

Post #13 in this old thread provides instructions on how to completely flush power steering fluid:

It is incredibly easy (although I did have to bother my wife to sit in the truck for 5 minutes slowly rotating the steering wheel).
