I would say it is not possible, all you need to do is remove your injection pump with all the lines, vacuum/ steering pump and intercooler pipe if its in the way to get to the side of the block, then you have a straight shot at the side cover after you remove the sound insulating cover.

It seems like alot of work for the first timer but it can be done in an afternoon.

Also tag the injection lines before you remove them so you can return then in the proper order.

I always take lots of pictures when I work in case I have any doubts,
But I never do.

You can pull those injection lines without separating them. Come off in two groups of three. There is however a trick to putting them back on. You have to start with the top back line on the pump and tighten it first. Then install the back three lines and work your way around the pump clockwise. I've had my pump and injectors out so much lately i can swap injectors in less than 45 min and a pump in two.

If anyone has attempted and accomplished it in the truck and with the pump on, it was a very difficult job!

Did you try and give the bolts a little snug up to buy time? I'm with the masses here not thinking it could be done with out pump removal, even if you did I'm guessing it would be so hard to get the gasket lined back up it would end up leaking worse than now.

So before I pull the pump how can I keep the shaft from turnning when I pull the pump off? I don't want it to get out of time with each other.
