porting and bigger valves in head

I have wanted to port my head and maybe install bigger valves in it for pulling and maybe racing. I have talked to some shops about doing it and have got different answers and would like to know what you think or have done to the head or is it just a waste of money. One shop told me that a need the exhaust flow to be 80% of the intake (intake=100cfm exhaust=80cfm), one told me to open the exhaust as much as possible with the biggest exhaust valve, the other said to fill the head port as big as possible with the biggest valves. So who is right I have been told prices for 1500 to 5500 for this work.

The least expensive route is to find a local machine that doesn't make money via the Dodge Cummins performance market. Possibly a gasser machine shop that deals with cylinder head work. Besides you're going to get numerous opinions on the subject and never get a solid answer. I suggest doing it, then reporting back to us.
