POD's and lack of smoke
POD's and lack of smoke
Okay I installed the POD's over the weekend and it bumped my idle down by about 200 RPM's, so I turned the Full Power Screw in one full turn to correct this. But still NO smoke, small puff of black soot at startup along with a puff when I hit the gas in neutral but this is all .. I realize smoke = unburnt fuel, but considering the fact that everyone says these puppies smoke I'm afraid I may have some engine problems? I can reach +30 boost on grades under no load, and I don't seem to have a whole lot of problem with power .. but my gas mileage sucks .. 12-14 ( fuel filter, air filter all clean ) Here's what my truck has ...
93 Intercooled 54k on motor and A/T trans ( cummins rebuild )
Dana 60/70 Stock G/R, 38" Toyo MT's
4 inch exhaust going to 5 inch straight stacks
Aftermarked fuel pump by Seattle Injectors
P.O.D.'s
Smoke screw in full
Starwheel in full then backed off two full turns
Fuel pin at "deepest" setting towards radiator
Full Power Screw turned 2+ full over stock
Is it possible something is wrong? Or should I just be happy that it's no freight train

check to make sure the fuel pin is moving down, look for a wear mark on it. if there is no mark you may have a air leak to afc make sure the little air hose from the intake manifold to the afc has all connections tight. if there is a leak the afc will not sense boost and not increase fuel.
Stock turbo + housing, seems this setup with my tweaks would produce more smoke not less
Fuel pin is moving .. or "was" moving at some point at least .. when I popped it out yesterday it had marks on it .. the pump is 2-3 months old.
Timing could probably be adjusted but wouldn't that decrease smoke, ie increase efficiency?
I'll try popping out the spring .. as long as my fuel pump wont fall apart without it
My boost also seems to kick in very easily .. I have a hard time accelerating old man style without hitting 3-5 psi I'm not sure if this is normal or not, the only other 1st gen's I've driven were without guages
