Angry Please tell me this is supposed to be here

I am still taking my motor apart slowly and i pulled the oil cooler off and i found this hole behind it on the front of the block. It looks like a rough cut like it has blown through or something. I took a piece of wire and i can feed it through the water pump housing through this hole. I am on a tight budget. Thanks.

The oil cooler is out of the truck. That is what i found when i pulled it out. The truck drove home from school. I have been loosing coolant on long drives and it started getting a little warmer than usual so i drove home from school and parked it, then i backed it in my shed. The truck never overheated but i dont think that is supposed to be there. The kdp is still in its home hasnt moved a bit. Will be killing it before final rebuild is complete.

well, thats a hole from the water "jacket" into your oil system?, it may be repairable but i doubt it man, could it be caused by corrosion? may have made the metal thin and weak then just kinda blew apart? i dont know....im assuming your getting coolant in your oil?

thats the weird thing my oil level never rose any, I kept a close eye on it when i added more antifreeze. The oil cooler looks fine, Just worried about this hole.

i bet the previous owner cut it open in an attempt to get better oil cooling capabilities. that looks rough enough to have been cut by a torch.

The truck was actually at 698,000 when it went down, I just put 600,000 when i first joined because i knew it was above that mark.

We have had the truck since 90 and it only had around 1,500 or somethin like that on it. Not for sure of actual milage when we got it. It doesnt look like its been cut with a torch. Is my block shot? I hope not.

he said the hole leads straight into the water jacket though, if someone would have tried to cut the block with a torch they prob. would have ended up with a much bigger hole than that, cast tends to pop and blow apart when you torch it....we need to call in the big guns on this one.....comptz, get some more pics or something, and we'll wait to see what wanna has to say on this subject....

i wouldn't say your block is done or that it would effect performance. another possiblity is that because the water pump cavity is behind that opening, it was cut in hopes that it would pull the water out from around the cylinders and keep it moving. just my thoughts. i know it's not supposed to be there cuz mine didn't have a hole there.
