piston lift pump or not?
piston lift pump or not?
I have my 93 W250 torn down to the bare frame and axles, and am puuting it back together 1 piece at a time. While I`m in this process i`m doing everthing I can to put it back together RIGHT! I`ve spent quite a bit of time reading over the sticky`s.
I was wondering if it is neccesary to change over to the piston lift pump for stock duties,as of right now? I was also thinking of doing the homegrown fuel pickup upgrade/supply that is layed out in the sticky section.
Is this something I should do while Im putting this back together? (I m trying to do this on a budget to get the truck on the road A.S.A.P.)

If you ever plan on turning up the pump and putting injectors in, that little diaphragm will not keep up. It's well worth the money, and very easy to install. Otherwise for a stock fuel system, I doubt it you would really need it besides just having the assurance of a more reliable piston pump.

i noticed a small improvement when i did my piston lift pump. i'm running stock injectors. just seems like a bit more smoke and seat of the pants feel. also might help you VE live a bit longer if you ever run the rpms up high.

as soon as i did injectors i knew i had to have one.. id get up to 30 psi of boost and then it would drop to 25... swapped in the pump and it went to 32 i think (stock turbo) and would stay there all day.
I imagine that with better fuel pressure the VE can use more energy to send fuel to the injectors instead of sucking fuel from the tank through the little diaphram pump. Perhaps this results in a better atomized spray from the injector? Finer drops burn quicker for higher hp? Not sure but it all sounds possible...
