I could take a picture, but getting it sized to post would create issues- I'm doign well to get online and post text.
The e-brake cable connections I have had were ALL the same. Looked like a piece of 4x4 flat steel bent into a "C" channel, with about 3/4-1" in the "bottom" of the C, and the sides being about 2" ea. (Wait, the math dont add up. Might be 4x5-6). In the bottom of the channel, are some holes/ slots cut to allow the ends of the e-brake cables to be placed and stay there.
I know, a picture is worth a thousand words, esp when one is as long winded as I.

The cable goes from the pedal, to a pivot arm, then to the adjuster(splitter) and on to the wheels..
The pivot arm was supposed to increase cable pull by giving the driver more leverage on teh cable..
It is a piece of flat iron on a pivot rod going through the frame by the fuel tank.. is that what you are refering to?
I dont know for sure when teh change took place, but some are 'normal' like in Staxx pic, and there are a few i have seen that use a two piece front cable.

you can use differant parts to make it work .I broke the adjusting bolt and used another cable and braket from a 77 to make it work ,as long as your pulling both cables and can get adjustment .

Teh cables are cheap enough that it doesnt make sense to jury-rig or cobble it together..
You can get them from Napa Online as wellas several other places.. when i replaced the ones on my last truck, the hardest peice to find was the 'equalizer bar", teh piece that connects teh fron tto rear cables, there are different styles of those as well...went through the dealer for it..
Just a heads up, the rear cables are known to seize up, breaking the front cable.... so you might want to check those before you order adn replace all of them... check them by grabbinbg them with a pliers and you should be able to pull the cables and they should go back on thier own...
