Performance Gauges

My truck is basically stock, pump adjusted slightly, K&N, and 4" straight exhaust... that's all. I don't have any gauges, but am looking at installing what I actually need. My question is simply that... what do I actually need? Oh yeah, and I did search the forums.

I would go with the standard Pyrometer, Boost, & Transmission temp. Some might recommend a Fuel Pressure gauge as well.

OK... thanks for that!

Now part II of the question... where can/do I find a pod/pillar to mount the gauges in that will fit a 1992 truck? My truck is very nice inside. I don't want to hack it up.

Fuel pressure gauges are underrated in my opinion. A lot of problems people post online could easily be diagnosed if one were installed.

I appreciate the mounting suggestions. So far there are 4 highly recommended gauges, but thus far I can only find a 2-gauge pillar mount so 2 of 4 will have to go, and the tach pod is for a 94-02. It probably won't fit my 92. Not being sarcastic, but this isn't working out too well so far.

If you have tilt steering that tach pod will work.
And you can make a 3 gauge pod out of a two gauge and a single gauge pod.

I would get a boost an pyro for sure. And maybe fuel presure. If you have an auto you should have tranny temp too. I don't see the need for a tach.

The tach mount for the steering column will fit the 1st gens with tilt steering. There are alot of guys running those mounts. I have tach, pyro, boost, water temp, and oil pressure in my truck. Maybe not needed but after seeing the difference from the factory stuff to the aftermarket readings, I am considering ditching the dash for some good gauges.

Run a 2 pod pillar, then get a 1 pod pillar mount and overlap them so you'll have 3 gauges on the pillar.

and then get the 94-02 steering column pod cover..fits right on 91-93 first gens.

then you'll have 4 spots for gauges

I have the GlowShift 3-N-1 gauge.

Now the base that it is on, in the pic, has slots cut into it. Easy to band and break off certain points. It also comes with a pad with sticky tape on each side. I broke a corner off, bent it to the shape of the A pillar, and stuck it on. Has held up since May to now. It is the right angle and I don't need to be 6'5" tall to see it.

Also, the Temp side can be for the trans, oil, or coolant.

Highly recommend a fuel pressure gauge. A $12 mechanical gauge works.

Tach's are over-rated. Everything else can be diagnosed by boost, EGT, temps, fuel pressure.

^^^ Wow... I was just getting ready to ask you guys about that one. Any other opinions on that one? That just might be my answer.

OK... I think I have decided on the GlowShift gauge.

From all the info I have gathered, it seems the EGT is the most critical thing to monitor. That said, it seems logical that the gauge with the needle showing the EGT would be the way to go... most prominent and visible. Please share your thoughts on that with me and I will leave you alone for a while.

Thanks again for the replies!
