Parts help

Well, everything that can go wrong has.
I need to overhaul my Getrag. Can't afford a spare to build up or pay someone else to do it. A temporary layoff just cancelled my funding. So I need a source for quality parts at a cheap price. Been surfing the net and there are a few out there, but what is the quality of the parts they are selling? The synchros are toast and I'm double clutching for now. No other problems with it.

There are about half a dozen places selling "rebuild kits", not complete I might add. I'm on a real tight budget and don't want to accidentally buy junk. I need the best parts at the cheapest price. At the moment I'm looking at $550 from drivetrain.com.

I went through one of mine 4-5 years ago or so. Got all my small parts from Zbag. Not sure if they still are in business or have parts. I don't think they had any hard parts but sounds like all you need are synchro's blocking rings and bearing. Maybe some shift forks too. I got the 3-4 fork off eBay for 35ish $. It wasn't fun to pull the rails apart but it can be done, and iI wasn't going to spend the 400$ for a rebuilt top cover.

I'm sorry to hear about the job situation, hope it works out for you soon.

I emailed Zbag for a quote. They don't list anything on their web site.

Thanks Mark!

Also got some prices from Quad 4X4. With some extra stuff like shim kits and snap rings it comes to just under $600 with shipping to AK.
I'm hopen to do this during my unpaid 2 week vacation mid May.

I wouldn't worry about the spring and ball kit or the top cover spring and pin. There's no need to take apart the synchro hubs that contain the springs and *****. Also not very often do the needle bearings need replaced either. Make sure you order a output and countershaft shim kit though. As far as the snap rings, usually the only ones I'll replace are the countershaft pin's snap rings. That's only because they tend to get damaged upon removal. A snap ring kit from Harbor Freight takes care of those .

A side note about the needle bearings, for the longest time no one made them. One could only obtain 'good used' ones. But just recently I seen some on ebay being sold as 'new'.

With almost 300K on the transmission and a lot of towing miles, I'm not taking chances. It's hard enough getting things up here so I'll spend the money to make sure I have parts in hand before I start. What would be run down to the parts store your you guys can be a week or 2 out for me. Sucks, but that's life in AK.
