My transmission parts are on there way they should be here any time now. I wonder how long it will take the cummins to tear it out again??

Take your time setting the bearing pre-load and it should last. I've shown mine no mercy and it's just now starting to make noise at 25k with cheapo bearings and a fairly dirty rebuild. Don't let the sick torque of the Cummins go to your head....don't load the gutbag hard in 1st or second, and don't lay into it untill over 1700 rpms in 3rd 4th and 5th...use a good quality synthetic 5-30 motor oil and change out your break-in oil after a couple weeks. Driving habits also have everything to do with parts lasting. I saw a guy break a T-19 4 speed (one serious cast iron tranny, for those who don't know...)on a jeep cj-5 with a TIRED 258-6 and 32'' tires cause he was a darn fool behind the wheel...yet another guy wheeled the same trails in an 89 k-5 blazer with a stout 350, stock 700-r4, lame 241 t-case and stock 1/2 ton axles and 36'' tires---with no carnage....for YEARS. Think about it. You won't win the race in 2nd gear anyway. Make it to direct drive and roll on the fuel---you'll reel 'em in and embarass 'em right in front of their girlfriends in that ol truck of yours...hey, someone's gotta do it, right?

Gotta use 5-30. The getrag is setup with bearing preload so gear oil would simply be too thick, regardless of the additive package. Go with a good quality 5-30 full synthetic. Wannadiesel is running some pretty cool stuff, but I can't remember the name....maybe his ears will start ringing.

That would be Redline MTL. It's about the same thickness as 5W-30, but has friction modifiers to help the synchos grip for better shifting.
I wouldn't use it in a tow rig. I've read some threads that indicate it runs hotter than motor oil (probably because it isn't as slippery).
