On stubborn ones I use a very large screwdriver...with a head that is barely thin enough to slip into the slot. Then sometimes I have to push down really hard on it, and use a cresent wrench on the square shaft of the screwdriver to turn it and break it loose.

I've had to use vice grips before as well...but that is a crummy location for that option.

Get a large screwdriver and hit it squarly on the end of the handle, this usually jars the threads loose enough to turn it by hand.

It may take a few hits.

If this doesn't work, get one of those hammer impact wrenches, sold in any autozone type place, it always works if you can get a whack on it...Mark

I'll second maybe! I work in a saltwater environment and the hammer impacts are a god send... Never had one I couldn't get out with one; as soon as they start to strip I go straight to the hammer impact.

The hammer impacts are great, give it a few good hits then check with a screwdriver, usually are loose
