p-pump
i've heard it's easier to just swap in a while p-pump motor... you at least need the pump, lift pump, whole timing case and injectors... i'm not sure what i am missing. i know where you can get a complete p-pump motor in the nashville area if you are interested PM me and i'll give you some details.
After talking with a friend who if somewhat of a cummins performance expert (his 99 is over 700 hp on #2 only and no electronic help.) You will need:
pump
injector lines
pump drive gear
front cover
With a good source (junkyard) around 1500.00 for stock parts. Not all that bad but what would a hot VE cost?

another thing to keep in mind is the rest of the truck. 1st gen frames are pretty lame and don't stand up to pulling as well as the 2nd gen frames do. Also, plan on buying a d80 and either a 4500 swap or a built auto. 1st gens are also very light so depending on class rules, you may be behind the 8-ball from a weight standpoint right off the bat. Not trying to deter you, but a 1st gen that could be considered 'semi-streetable' will easily be capable of tearing up everythign downwind of the crankshaft. jmo
oh--welcome to DTR, glad to have you along!

Well the 91.5-93 First Gen frames are much stronger than our 89'-90' frames. Besides I haven't heard of anyone breaking a frame on here anyway. You'd need to beef it up to do beefy things like pulling fwiw sure.
