overdrive lockout solenoid shorted
I had a blown fusible link on the drivers side inner fender (shut down the whole truck) and it turned out to be a shorted overdrive lockout solenoid. I unplugged it and replaced the fusible link and now the truck runs and the transmission shifts except no overdrive. How hard is it to change the solenoid. I have a shop manual but have never been into an auto trans before. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

drop the pan, follow the wires and just replace it. i would think a new one would come with the weather pack connection that sticks out of the trans case. while your in there you might as well adjust the rear band.

Ohm out the solenoid before you replace it. It's not uncommon for the harness that runs down to the solenoid to chafe through on the transmission case and short out.
