Overdrive Lockout on '05?
Overdrive Lockout on '05?
I have some rental properties in Park City and have been having to drive up Parley's Summit once or twice a week, which is a LONG/STEEP incline. I've noticed if I leave it in overdrive, the truck will make the pull but EGT's want to climb to 1150-1200. If I hit the tow/haul button, it will downshift and cool the EGTs, but then wants to go back into overdrive fairly quickly. I'm not too worried bout the extended EGTs, but if I was able to lockout overdrive, it seems like it'd make the drive easier on the truck and the temps would go down.
I've seen the BD-Power Performance OverDrive LockOut module, but for $240, is it worth it? I've heard there is also a reflash the dealer can do that gets rid of the Tow/Haul and turns it into overdrive on/off. What are all you 2005 owners recommending?

Yes it is worth it. The reflash will do you no good because your Smarty will overwrite it when you install it or set it to stock. Either way the changes the dealer makes will go away. Been there, done that.
I am very happy with mine. Had it for about a year now with no issues.

For the '05s, there is a little trick you can use to keep it in 3rd. Once you are up to speed, choose your tow haul to force it out of overdrive. Keep your speed up (55-ish +) and pull the lever into L2. The computer will not let it drop a gear because of the speed, and the L2 selection will not let go into OD.

Do it and not look back. I burned up 3 overdrive units sled pulling till I got the BD unit and not a problem since. They don't like going into OD in 4lo with a sled behing them. Also my truck will dog around in OD and not down shift because its got plenty enough fuel to not depress the pedal enough to kick it down to drive which leaves the line pressure low and doesn't help clutches any.
