Original 16" steel wheels

Hi all,

I'm thinking of going back to original 16" steel wheels for a couple of reasons. 1) tires might be cheaper, 2) the truck probably won't hydroplane so badly, and 3) what do I need the big fat wide ones for?

Thoughts or input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Denis

Better fuel mileage too.
Skinny tires are also better in the snow, but I doubt that's much of an issue for you.

Denis,

I grew up just up the road from you in Garner, and know that you won't have to mess with snow that much (the ice will get'cha though ).

The fatter meats may offer a smoother ride.

Wish I could find some original steelies with the dog dish hubcaps--I love that look, especially with a 235-85-16 tire. My cheap chrome wheels just look, well, cheap!

I just bought a '90 with original rims and all 4 dog dish hubcaps. The Getrag is toast, and a couple other problems have to be fixed, but once that's done, the original rims are getting ditched for some 16X10 wagon wheels and 33X12.50's.....may be a few months.

I wouldn't have thought anyone would want the factory 16X6 rims...

I picked up a set of dog dish centers and trim rings, all brand new Mopar, for my steelies off of epay for not too much. I think I paid around $50 for all 8 pieces. It was from some RV outfit in Indiana I believe.

I looked for almost a year then scored four (with chrome rings and centers) from a nearby TDR member last December.
I like the steel rims....they keep the truck looking like a sleeper...I need the edge

my neighbor up the street has a W250 and has 2 factory sets of wheels. I have a D250 with original wheels, but not the cut outs for the hubs. if you don't mind driving out to modesto, CA, then email me and i'll hook you up with him.

I am planning on painting my wheels black and then getting the trim rings and centers.
Dodge92, I'm going to check a little more into those tires too. What kind of price, weight rating, anf where in the heck do you find them at?

That would look cool, I bet Stockton Wheel could do it...hmmmm now you`ve got the wheels a turnin, as I have an X-tra set of stock steelies sitting under my deck.
