The old clutch setup...issues.

Hey guys,

So, a few years back I swapped a Getrag into my truck. At the same time I put in a SB clutch with all the fixins.

Of course, my old worn-out hydraulics wouldn't get the job done, so I had to replace both cylinders.

Well, Here I am, a year or two later, and it's tough getting the old girl into her intial gear (2nd) sometimes, and sometimes it takes multiple tries.

So, I want to fix that, because it's annoying. But I don't know where to start. There doesn't appear to be a whole lot of adjustment available on the hydraulic systems.

Was hoping I could have some help troubleshooting?

Thanks!

Have you checked slave and master for leaks? Probably time for another slave cylinder.

I need a new slave cylinder too...mines leaking. Someone suggested getting one with a bleeder on it. Anyone know what brand has those?

Slave Cylinder probably has under 5k on it...or rightabouts. It was a rockauto jobber. Can't believe it'd crap the bed already.

How are the eye on the clutch master cylinder rod and the pin on the clutch pedal. I have seen some on the verge of wearing through the eye, or cutting the pin in two.

Does it have to be your clutch? Couldn't it be the 1st/2nd fork in your tranny? Mine has had trouble going into reverse for years, and I simply slide it into 5th and then back down into reverse, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think my clutch has anything to do with it.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. The pedal has some wear on the pin, but not even 1/4 way thru. There are no leaks. The clutch and pressure plate are relatively new and should be overly sufficient for my power levels, so that shouldn't be the problem.

I was thinking maybe it was the rod length, but I don't have any rod to compare it to, unfortunately...just remember hearing that the replacements are often shorter than the oe.

Is there a plastic(nylon?) cap on the slave pushrod! the one from my donor was cracked and close to MIA. if it is missing that would shorten the push rod by maybe 3/16" to 1/4"!

Just went thru this with a buddies Powerstroke, the clip was still there, but broken, you really couldn't tell anything was amiss till you held your hand on it while pushing the pedal, it collapsed/shifted sideways just enough that the clutch wouldn't allow engagement without grinding.

79 cents and a new clip later, all was well.
