oil to turbo

Any tricks to make sure I have oil getting to my newly rebuilt turbo? Can I run the engine without the turbo on to check oil line for flow? Or run for short time with the turbo on and the oil line off? Dont want to damage anything

thanks
Joe

The oil line comes right out of the oil filter housing. If the line is open (easily checked) you'll get about a quart per second through it.

If you want to check that out, just forget to hook it up and start the engine like I did. whattamess that was. I still have oil drips crawling out of the body cracks and messing up the paint.

You do need to put a couple of ounces in the turbo before you hook the line up or you may immediately do some harm to the new bearings. That's about 5 seconds worth of lubrication.

I don't think I harmed mine much running it for a couple of seconds, pre oiled but not hooked up. I've since logged over 4000 miles and used less than a quart of oil.
