my mechanic has sealed up darn near every leak in my machine but every time I take a long trip, I see a bunch of oil drops on the leading edge of the fuel tank.

could it be oil leaking out of the Getrag? it's overfilled 1 1/2 quarts

 

Road draft tube?

 

my does the same thing, it is the out put seal on the t-case going to th rear axle. it wont leak juct sitting there and if you wash it you may miss it all together. if you wash off the back of the t-case and go for a little drive, and then get under it u may see a little oil behind the drive shaft yoke. or if it is like mine you will see drops of oil

Could just be a little oil coming from the blow by tube. That is also on the left side of the engine.

My rear main keeps everything well undercoated. Got a trans leak now, too.

 

mine has the output seal on the t case leakin too.

 

Chalk up another one for leaking transfer case output. Mine isn't a few drops, though...

 

I always thought that was the 'anti-corrosion' system that came with these trucks

 

transfer case seal makes sense; it ain't diesel

we'll have to get after that one next; how involved is seal replacement?

 

Rear brake line runs between the fuel tank and frame. Sometimes they will drip before they give up the ghost.

 

That maybe well worth looking into!

 

It's an external lubrication system.

 

replaced all of the brake lines in my truck this summer...they WERE toast

 

maybe it's not oil... check to see if it's grease from your u-joint? if it got wet with water (say a rainstorm) it might look a little more like oil. I dunno, just trying to help.
