NV4500 rebuild questions....

I'm working on my 2wd to 4wd conversion on my NV4500 right now. Have everything apart and getting ready to re-assemble.

No I've found a couple good rebuild threads on-line, and have the Quad4x4 rebuild manual. Now when I was taking apart my tranny I did not find any Teflon spacers? I found one thin metal shim, used where "one" Teflon spacer should be, but that is it.

Clearly the tranny was working without them....but how tragically important are these Teflon spacers?

I went looking for replacement Teflon spacer and ended up on the Quad4x4 site. They make reference to the early NV4500's having metal spacers, instead of the Teflon. Since my tranny is a late 95 it is in that group, and would be why I have the metal shims.

Good to know that there are no parts missing. I will probably just order the teflon replacement spacers.

There is one thick, and one thin spacer. My thin one is starting to twist from heat and wear...so I need to replace it anyway. I spoke with Roy at Quad4x4 today, and got those, and some end play shims on there way.

Yeah the spec on end play is .002 to .006...but they all seem to say go for .002 if you can.
