Number six

I have seen in recent posts about the #6 cylinder running hot, why does that run hotter than the others?

It's the last cylinder the coolant gets to.

Has anyone rerouted coolant externally to help cool #6? Is it really needed?

There is a part (cummins part) that bolts on the back of the block( or maybe head can't remember) in place of the existing freeze plug.

I have it on mine. With a 5/8" heater hose back to one of the other heater hoses. I actually have it routed through a coolant filter. So basically it keeps the coolant from dead heading back there.

If you do some searching you'll be able to find the cummins part number. I don't have it handy.
