Not Charging

My 92 has been having issues charging I’ve replaced the alternator and added a transpo external voltage to the alternator and still can’t get it to charge. Before I did the transpo part it would randomly charge and then stop

Had the same problem, went the same route with the same results. Finally gave up and went to a true 1 wire alternator ditching the regulator all together. Problem solved. Can't remember how many times I tried to repair the wiring harness. Also, check the function of the auto shutdown relay. And did you cut the regulator wire from the PCM when you added the external regulator?

Another thing you need to do if you already haven't is unplug the regulator. Let us know what the results are.

I read your comment and understand how annoying it is when equipment does not work properly. It seems to me that the problem may not only be with the alternator or external controller, but somewhere in the wiring or grounding. Perhaps it is worth checking the contacts and battery condition in more detail. By the way, I came across an interesting article on the website https://ways2well.com/blog/why-marti...m-cell-therapy about stem cells for athletes — it's completely different, but it inspired me to think that for any problem, even technical or physical, it's important to find the right approach and not give up. Perhaps with your car and patience, you'll also be able to find a solution.

Wow. The posts around here just keep getting weirder.

Looking into stem cell something or other to fix your charging problem on your truck…..
I am going out on a limb here and guessing that might not help.

Take apart and clean the bullet shaped connector on the alternator wire harness, would be my first move.

Oliver, until you’ve experienced electrical
issues on some of the “electronic heavy” modern equipment, you won’t understand how stem cell therapy might help.

about the time you’ve exhausted all physical, mental, mathematical, and theological reasoning for the problem you’re experiencing, may as well throw stem cells, and maybe some CRISPR at it as well....

engineers should have stuck with trains

This has been an evolving problem. I'm to the point that I don't even want to think about the problems of these computer controlled engines anymore. I paid a lot of money for the PC tools to do the diagnostic but haven't even looked at them in several years. May be obsolete but it says they get free updates. Someday I may need this stuff.

EPA regs along with CAFE requirements and probably some other stuff I I haven't heard about has forced automakers into making things much more complex and much more expensive. To increase fuel economy expensive turbochargers are now necessary to make a 4 banger perform like a V-8. While variable valve timing and computer controlled ignition systems to make things cleaner.

It's the reason I drive an old truck. The most complex thing on it is the VE injection pump. Something that can be torn apart and fixed/resealed down the road. I have accumulated a bunch of spare parts and with good men like Oliver A ton of used parts are also available.

I pity the fool who thinks he needs to spend $80,000 on a new truck that because of complexity is very unreliable. My 89 Cummins fires up after just touching the key even when It's been sitting for weeks.

Rant off

Edwin

My guess is it is just another ROBOT throwing out useless info..
1/2 the posts here now a days are garbage Bot drivel. Dredging up 20 year old posts, or giving driving / towing advise - with all their “hands on” driving experience…HAHA

I get better advise from my dog.

You could be right, or and I see this a lot on some other social media, they are the " fast food crowd" post something then 30 people throw something out there and you never hear back to see what fixed the problem. The days of "family in forum" are slowly going by the wayside this forum is a very good example of that and it makes me sad even though I don't post much.

It is sad. This place used to be full of Dodge diesel enthusiasts that really REALLY knew their stuff.

Now if you can not find it an a 10+ year old post, you are usually out of luck.

I guess I can always ask my dog technical questions.
