non i/c and ic/ delivery valves

I`m going to be swapping a non i/c pump into my truck tomorrow. I know the delivery valves are different and the non i/c uses slightly longer ones but will the pump bolt up to the i/c lines or will I have to swap over the delivery valves?

Pulltilbroke told me that he's swapped i/c injector lines into his non i/c. I would imagine it could work the other way around.

Just swap your I/C DV Holders and whatnot to the new pump. after that you should be good to go. While your at it swap the KSB's also.

You will need to swap the delivery valves, don't think your going to be able to bend the injector lines enough to fit the longer delivery valves.

If you have access to the non-IC lines then grab them and swap them at the same time. But you might have clearance issues with the intake horn and ??

As I understand it the discharge valves are nothing more than check valves to keep the fuel in a static position between the pump head and the injector. If the threads are the same and the line sizes and lengths are the same along with the pumps injection charge per cylinder being equal, then would somebody kindly explain why would they need to be changed?

Different lengths, non IC are longer IIRC.

Well, after a bout of the flu which I`m still shaking off I got the pump installed this past weekend. The lines fit with no problems. Took quite some time to get the air bled out and get it running and there are a couple of issues:

A couple of the delivery valves are leaking where they screw into the H/R assy and I noticed that as I was tightening the lines at the pump that the del. valves were turning as the flare fittings started to snug up. I figured I`d swap out the seals on them and went over to the orig pump to see how the thing is assembled and boy were they TIGHT! Anyone know the torque spec on the del. valves?

The fuel shutoff solenoid is inop...grrrr, gues I`ll swap that off the orig pump when I dive into the del valve deal.

Sure was nice to hear it run again after toooo long, unfortunately we are slated for rain rain rain .... and more rain this week, I have my fingers crossed for the weekend.

I didn't see you mention it but, did you end up swapping DV holders to the non i/c pump or did you have to manipulate the i/c lines to line them up with the non i/c DV holders?

Just rig up a cable or small chain to use as a manual shut-down until you can get the shut-down solenoid working again. You probably know that and have done it already though.

I'll look through my FSM and Cummins shop manual for a DV holder torque spec.

Well, I figured out WHY the "non i/c" del valves fit fine, apparently the individual who I bought the pump from swapped out a set of i/c del valves onto the pump (probably the reason they were ALL loose ) doesnt bug me that they were swapped but AT LEAST TIGHTEN THEM for goodness sake. Never having seen the two types side by side I had no way of knowing what to look for. And this supposedly "rebuilt by SCHEIDS 3k miles ago" pump leaks from the distributor head in addition to the non functional shut off solenoid . I wont publicly sully the name of the person I bought the pump from but to say I am a bit upset is an understatement. Oh well, caveat emptor, ya pays yer money...and ya takes yer chances I suppose. Anyone know how difficult it is to change out the dist head o-ring?.
