hello everyone,
I have a 92 w350 4x4 5spd that has decided that it doesn't want to start. I was doing some wiring on the drivers side of the engine bay when the wire i was running (a decated ground wire to my trailer plug) accdently touched the rear grid heater relay hot post and i heard a distinct pop of a short. I know there a fusible links on these truck but i dont know what circuits the go with. the truck will work just fine if you turn the key to the run position and jumper the starter wire. I have a good suspition that theres a link some where and i'm just trying to see if anyone else has had to deal with this before i start cutting open the wiring harness. my hayns book is no help lol.

To narrow it down some first, what else doesn't work?

 

If you had the key on, you probably blew one of the fusible links. Find the duck foot behind the battery and feel the 5 links coming off it.

Likely link would be 20 g orange connect to a 12 G red wire, called the A1 circuit. Branch of it after the ignition switch called A21 goes all over, including the heater solenoids.

Replacement links come by color code. You splice around the fault with them. Alternatively you could install a maxi fuse of the right value.

Haynes manuals are good outhouse material. Get the FSM on CD at Geno's Garage.

 

thanks for all the help guys. turns out while i was wiring the brake controler up under the dash i some how managed to unplug the clutch safety switch so after tracing it back i found it. The pop i heard must have just been an arc and thats all. whoops guess i'll have to be more careful next time.
