fusible link corrosion

Hey everybody,
I was looking at my batteries and i noticed there is two 12ga fusible links that are almost corroded completly in two. They are the ones that go to the grid heaters.
My question is can you just cut off the corroded part of the fusible link and solder on a new ring terminal? Or do ya'll have another idea? thanks

You can cut off the bad end and then crimp on a new ring terminal, you probably will not have much luck soldering onto the wire if it is an old link.

The fusable link serves as a fuse and should be replaced in kind. You can get a new fusable link with the same rating and replace. Just have to get back to good wire to resolder (or ring terminal at clean connection). Auto parts stores have a plug in fuse holder that can be used in place of the fusable link. I don't recall the amperage rating right now. It should be in the manual.

If it gives you a warm and fuzzy...go ahead and use it. In my experience, it's a waste of money 'cause you never can get it in everywhere to seal the terminal. A yearly cleaning (brushing) with baking soda and water rinse will keep the terminals nice and bright without the corrosion. Just keep the baking soda out of the battery itself.
