no odometer, speedometer, overdrive- speedsensor?

The speedometer, odometer, trip gauge, and the over drove stopped working at the same time. Could it be the speed sensor? I know they have to be related. I did the pot conversion about 6 months ago, its been working fine. Is there anyway to check the speed sensor? I hate to just buy stuff randomly. thanks

On the drive unit the pin can strip, check it first. The pin cost cents and to dollars for the whole unit

pin...

i talked to my dodge dealer and he said i cant get the pin without buying the whole unit (black case with the gears in it specific to tire size and axle ratio) i lost a pin when i took it to the parts store and i cant find any number on it or anything..... help please.. this could save me 90 dollars and a 35 mile 1-way trip

I've got an extra one taped to the inside of my glove box.

Is there a speedo / electric shop in your area. They ahve them. The one I go to in Sacramento, ca even rebuilt my drive unit and recalibrated the gears to correctly match my tire sizing and gear ratios

On the tranny if its 2wd or on the transfer case if its a 4x4. Dealer only part cost me 80 bucks. But well worth it. Takes about 5 min to change out.

My speedometer, odometer, and trip gauge stopped working at the same time also. Today I finally got around to crawling under the truck. When I got under the truck, the sensor was just sitting on the cross member. I cleaned it up and put it back on. Everything is turning, but... everything is spinning about 60% faster then they should be.

is there a way to reset or calibrate the system?

I was watching this, looking for some spare parts, but you need this adapter worse than my shelf does:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA:IT&ih=004
Good luck and hurry. In case this link doesn't work, Ebay auction # 140152908897.

Yep, the adapter fell off and landed in the road. Mine's backed off a couple times, I check it every oil change now.

wow, i didnt even realize there was a part missing. it fits so nicely without it. i missed the ebay auction, so i guess i will be buying the part new.

when i was cleaning the sensor, there was a little thin bit of plastic washer (the material is like the plastic used to make twizzler bags) setting on the seating face around the pin.. is that bit of plastic essential for the sensor to work right? it was in bad shape.

thanks for the help.

Be real careful when you install that thar speed sensor... Put it in first without the little gear on it to see where it is supposed to fit up to.... then work the gear around so that it fits in without forcing it. If you force it, it will ruin that little gear... its all plastic. The center of that speed sensor is off-center. Thats what makes it kinda difficult to get it in there exactly as it should be....patience. My $.02 worth....

knowing that there was another part missing, I rolled under my truck again and groped around the bottom of the cross member. As luck would have it, the adapter was partially wedged under the rear trans mount.

my grease gun is broke, but once I get it packed I should be back in business.

thanks for the help.
