Newbie..What do I have..

I am new to the ram diesel crowd and wonder what I have. It is a 1992 W250 4X4 5 speed Club Cab. What transmission do I have? I know it is a Getrac, but what model? What transfer case is it? I know I have a Dana 60 front and Dana 70 rear. Also is there an adjustment for the transfer? It seems 2wd and 4 hi are very close together. It wants to pop out of 4Hi. If I take off the rubber shift boots, it positively stays in 4Hi. I can't see an adjustment. Thanks.

There is an adjustment for the transfer case but forget exactly what it is since I don't have my manual with me. I think it is, take the shifter boot off, place in N, loosen the 3 bolts and push the whole thing forward as far as it will go (doesn't move much) and then tighten the bolts. Not exactly sure but will check when I get home tonight.

Transmission is a Getrag G360
Transfer case is a NP205

You can mess with the linkage, it may be worn and sloppy, you have to go under the truck if I remember correct.

Thanks for the info. I did try loosening the 3 bolts and moving the plate forward. It moved very little and did not make a difference. The only thing I can see to do is to remove the shift rod, cut it and put a turnbuckle in the middle to provide adjustment. I think the rod needs to be longer. Any other suggestions? Are Getrac 360 and NP205 any good? Any problems to watch for?

See if you can get raplacement shift linkage from a wrecker or new. It sounds like sloppy linkage. Get a buddy, block the weels and move the shifter around a bit with one watching from underneath. Alot of lateral movement indicates crappy linkage. It's not too hard to do the job at all. If you get a hanes or chilton manual you should be able to do it with simple hand tools in under an hour.

The getrag should be good as long as it shifts well and isn't noisy. Keep clean lube in it.

The NP205 is one of the toughest T- cases you can get in a 3/4 ton.

Congratulations on getting your truck and welcome!
