Newbie with a RWAL question

By the search feature I found the plug behind the glove box. I ground the plug out. all that happened was that the parking light, and the anti lock light came on and stayed on no blinks or anything. Any help on this will be appreciated. Thanks, Tony

P.S. I have never seen a check engine light on this truck come on. I don't even know where the check eng. light is at.

My 89 doesn't have a check engine light either. I solved my RWAL problem by unplugging it and I'm done with that. RWAL IMHO isn't worth the effort to fix.

Did you ground it momentarily, or did you leave it grounded?

I ground it for over one minute while I waited for the lights to start flashing.

what do you unplugg? The black box behind the glove box? If so is there anything that doesn't work if I go this route? Thanks, Tony

You did it wrong. Just touch the terminal to ground for 2 seconds. That will make the RWAL box flash the codes.

are you shore, that you shorted across the two terminals that are taped to the wiring loom, that gos to the brake module!

with the one's that i have played with it only takes a sec or so and then remove the jumper wire!

to get it to stop flashing the code's I had to unplug the brake module!
If you have unplugged the module..........all the code got erased.

if so put it back together and drive it till it comes back on and then short the open connector momentarily!

I took the little one black wire terminal, (it has a long probe and a short probe). I connected these two with a circuit tester, with the key on. I still get nothing no flashes at all. Thanks, Tony

Guys been doing some searching the last little while. The reason I was asking about the rwal is that the speedo is jumping around as is the temp guage, and the oil guage. I took it for drive a few minutes ago everything still the same. Also the parking light and antilock light comes on intermittingly when I let off the accelerator. Any way I appreciate all of the help. Later, Tony

OK i had to go look at it to refresh my memory

that is the connector that you need, but it needs to be shorted!

A test light is a resisted to ground(the light bulb) ! you need to go from that connects to a good ground and it will blink bright dim bright ext. When it does that(usually about 2 sec.) then remove the ground!

Now it will blink off and on the code that is stored.......My guess is code #9

Check the code in the arwl any ways,....it might help but it sounds like the ground for the system(dash) isn't good......all the gauges are messing up, right?

Aaaaaa isn't there a voltage reducer in the back of the dash?
I now there is in my 70 cuda......did thay still do it in 91?

Flashgordon your probably right. The truck, in the two yrs I've had it the voltage guage has always jumped around. The fuel guage jumps around right after you fill it up then stops after a little while. The speedo and the temp and the oil guage I've never had any problem with. Just started acting up a few days ago, then it started working fine until this afternoon. I know I'm in over my head. I really have no clue where to go from here. Thanks for the help guys. Tony

the voltage reducer plug into the back of the circuit board of the dash or instrument cluster. the voltage is reduced as it is sent to the dash......kinda like the the dash runs o 6V and the rest runs on 12V
I don't no if or dashes are this way but in 1970 they still were.........
now that i have been foaming at the mouth
I don't think this could be the problem because when they when out, it just make all the gauges not work!

I would still like to know, form any one that has had these dashes out if that still us this volt reducer?
