Post Newbie and lovin' my new Dodge!

Just bought a 1993 Dodge Cummins Ext Cab 4x4 yesterday. I have been wanting one of these trucks for years! The truck is all completely stock, bought it from the original owner. Nothing is modified or "tweaked" at this point. The transmission is an auto (815 I believe). The pickup is equipped with a factory optioned "super-duty" transmission cooler mounted under the bedside. I have been told that these transmissions barely hold up to stock power levels and that any increase in torque and horsepower is "playing with fire". I'm a person who likes to monitor the components on my vehicle. Could anyone point me in the right direction for find gauges/gauge pods for 1st gen Dodges? I would like to get a boost, pyrometer, and trans temp gauges. Perhaps a certain company markets these for a reasonable price? My other question is: I would like to "power-wash" the engine and engine bay.......any cautions or concerns to doing that? I would appreciate any insight to this thread. As a new member I always go the the "Sticky" forums to educate myself about different tasks or troubleshooting guidelines.

Welcome!

The sticky here is awesome. Gauges and such can be had at www.genosgarage.com or www.pdrdiesel.com or www.tstproducts.com
I am also a noob, but learning fast.

I power wash my engine. Degreaser first, let soak, degreaser again, let it soak, blast it all off with soapy water under pressure. The last time I dd it the "water in fuel" light came on. I drained the filter with the lever on the bottom and then primed the motor with the little lever on the side of the fuel pump. Took about 2 minutes all together.

Enjoy the Dodge!

I am a newbie too... I read in the FAQ (I think) to do it with the engine cool and avoid electrical stuff with the water. So I went right out and did mine..not a single problem except I should not have had a new white T shirt on, and safety glasses are a good idea if your luck is anything like mine.

Dont spray the side of the firewall where all the wires are,1 for obvious reasons but also tucked up underneath the driver side fender, by the battery, is the so-called computer.

There are MANY different guage marketers. Pick which ones you like best.

ON the tranny, I think all you need is a Torque converter and maybe a valve body.

I will let more experienced tranny experts tell you what is needed.

Welcome fella's! On yer gauges, u can get an Autometer dual A-pillar from summit for 40 bucks shipped, and a second gen steering column pod for about the same from summit as well. Both autometer units. If u have a heat gun and patience U can form a second gen tripple a-pillar to the 1st gen.
