New truck...what trans do I have? What to do with pics!

So I just picked up a 1993 1 ton 4x4 dually with a 5 speed.
Previous owner said it was a nv4500.
I don't know alot about either the getrag or 4500.
It does have this tag on the side of it. Could anyone help me out with this?
Just trying to figure out what I have.

Truck shifts fine...first gear is useless. I can't believe how low it is, so I just take off in second. Speedo/odo do not work. Is this because of the trans swap or I read the VSS is a common problem?
Just bought it on the other side of the state and drove it 200 miles home.
Truck is rusted! Needs new driver floor/cab mounts/rockers. Fuel tank held up by straps.
Has factory tach...banks pyro/boost gauge...propane injection..western plow mount/wiring. All options work including A/C.
The turbo looks stock but it has a wastegate? I'll have to get a pic.
Paid $2,800 for it...good/bad?

I also own a 89 ctd 727 d250 (hot rod) with a rotted out cab.
I have a good diesel military tug regular cab to use on the d250, or cut floor out to fix the dually?
I also own a 84 1 ton 2wd 4 door 360/727 with a good cab to convert to cummins, or put a 413 or 440 in it?

Is it worth it to swap the dually drivetrain/axles to the quad cab? Are the frames the same? Or even close?
Are aftermarket cab mounts available for the dually or do I have to make them. Rust free ext cabs are hard to find!
I have a grinder/torch/welder and I can't decide which direction to take with these trucks!

Sorry for the long post...I just got this dodge bug all of the sudden.

Need some opionions here please!
Wondering what you guys would do with these!

Your tranny looks just like my 4500. I've never seen a getrag tho. But I'd say you've got yourself a 4500!

Sounds to me like you did good on the price.

I think your idea of putting the drivetrain under the crew cab is a great idea, it is a very popular conversion. You can convert it to 4wd by swapping crossmembers and drilling for spring hangers, there's an awesome how-to on doing that on this board.

KD's other $0.02. (Now I'm broke!)

Like Wannadiesel and Crossy's Son said, you hit it out of the park with that buy, esp. w. the NV already there! Also like Wanna said, I think a drivetrain conversion to the crewcab is on the cards. I would then do something about your other 2. Sorta depends on what you want the other truck for, to have a dually or a hotrod. How about a hotrod dually?! That's going to be my next project in a couple of years!
Seriously though, if you don't do any serious towing, why have a dually? Better to put whatever you need in to the 250.

I would like a tow vehicle. The dually would be my secondary vehicle when I need to tow a vehicle or something (I buy/fix/sell cars a lot).
I would also like to move to Alaska for a little while in the near future. I think that dually would be a good truck (4x4/5speed/long bed) to get me and all my junk there.

The 4 door conversion would be nice. Just don't know if I want to tackle that yet? Being a 2wd auto gasser to a 4x4 diesel 5 speed dually would be a lot of work. Pretty inexpensive since I have all the stuff (remember I have a 1990 military tug cab/frame/suspension for parts also)
It would be sweet, but not sure if i'll get in over my head, or even if it is practical. I have no kids or anything to haul around in the truck so I guess it's not that big of a deal?

I would like the d250 for a hot rod project to get that out of my system before I move. Non i/c, pump turned up a little, and a 727 make that truck quick already.

I hate being indecisive!

In that case, making the dually as a truck to keep would be the first and foremost thing. My thoughts on the crew would be that it can do everything, (almost!) and so it would be worth the time and effort. And, resale value would be pretty good on it too, if you ever wanted to pass it along!

So since I have a reman trans...does anyone know if the places that reman these 4500's do the upgraded 5th gear? It seems like that is the weak point to the 4500. I assume they are just rebuilt to factory specs?
Is there any way for me to check and see if I have the updated 5th gear without taking the trans apart?

thanks guys!

I think the 5th gear fix is going to depend on the place you take it. Might just look the company up and call and ask them.

I want a dually so bad with that tranny...you got a great deal! 1rst gear on those are always super low, for towing, a lot of rock crawler guys that don't do super crazy stuff like them cause of beefiness as well as creeping capability. The asphalt company I worked for had a 93 with an nv4500 and it towed a backhoe and roller around all day long. Usually had to start in second unless pullin' a super heavy load.

If it were up to me I'd build a 4x4 crew cab dually.
