I'm with Greg on adding some boost, that will help. The controller I have is off Ebay from Lower Shores Performance. Boost goes to 40 psi and stays there until I get off the pedal or the pump defuels. Most of the wastegate actuator pushrods are crimped in place and a RPITA to adjust. The other problem you can run into adjusting them is not getting full opening once you've shortened the rod to raise the boost high enough. The manual boost controller is way simpler to deal with.
Thanks Wanna. How does the boost controller work? Is it controllable from the cab or is it a try it, stop and tweak, try it again deal?

If you wanted to run the hoses into the cab I guess you could do that. Mine's mounted on the passenger side inner fender right by the turbo. It only took me a couple hard pulls to get it set right, it has coarse and fine adjustments.

My truck is intercooled.

Edit:
Oh, how it works: it's got a check ball and a spring, the spring keeps the ball seated until the pressure gets to where you want the WG to open. There's an air bleed after the check ball so the WG doesn't get stuck open when the ball reseats. The air bleed also serves as a fine adjustment.

I respect your experience greatly Wanna so how long could I safely run at 1500 degrees while getting up to speed with a load on?

Thanks

I wouldn't do that with a load on. I'm talking about playing around in an empty truck. Keep 'er under 1300 when you're working it. I wouldn't be afraid to hold it at 1200 as long as the coolant temp was OK.

Thanks everyone. I have just had a very good lesson about the importance of gauges. I'm glad I got them before any damage was done.
