new here got a question ps pump

i was reading about ps pump problems seems like the thing to do is block up the front axle and turn the wheel back and forth without hitting the stops to work out the air. i have a friend that has had the same trouble with the ps pump on his ford and has fixed it doing the same thing but he was told to turn the wheel each way to the stops and hold it there for five seconds. is there a difference in the way to fix ford and dodge ps pumps?

All the OEM's from those years used the same pumps and boxes with minor changes like ratios and mounting. I'd think that what works for one should work for all.
