New guy with Auto Trans question.

Alright so my Name is Weston i live in Tucson and just bought a 1993 1-ton 4x4 with a Automatic. I am pretty mechanical and have built a lot of stuff varying from hot rods to my current rock crawler project but am new to the diesel world. I have read all the stuff i the sticky that i thought would be pertinent to my situation but still am not sure where to start.

Problem.
-The truck wants to stay in first gear and not shift out.
-I am able to get the tranny to shift if i bring it up pretty high in the RPM range then let out of the throttle and get back into the throttle.
- It is a similar problem that i have felt with TV cable adjustments on other auto trans i have dealt with.

Im thinking that it could be the 1st 2nd shift solenoid, the TV adjustment, or the TP adjustment.

I was just hoping that someone could point me in the right direction before i dig into it.

Start with adjusting the TV cable. The TPS only controls the shift to OD.

Welcome Weston, to the finest 1st gen forum in the ether! IMHO, B-North's post is probably pretty accurate with regards the TV cable. He's 100% spot on with regards the TPS.

well it was even simpler than i thought. The spring in between the TV cable the the arm on the injector pump was not there. I went to adjust it and noticed there was nothing making the TV return to the rest position after the throttle was let off. So friend with the same setup sent me a pic and i quickly saw the problem. Still needs some adjustment i think but thanks for your help.
