I would take it for what it is worth.. On CL I see trucks pop up all the time for 3-5K. Vermont is the honey hole though.. some nice trucks on CL right now. Maybe check California CL and see what is around while you're there. Oh and ebay too.

For a truck of this age not to have bondo and rust will be hard to find. I see them come up on ebay and it's orginal owners that keep care of them. The price tag is up to you though, I see some of these rigs sell dang near $30,000. Which I can see why, the entire DEF system on diesel these days are terrible. We spent 60,000 on a chase truck that gets 6mpg. Brand new cummins with the adjustable turbo (down/up grades).

Man that sucks! A buddy of mine occasionally buys equipment that is over a days drive away. Like you he is pretty particular about what he wants. He has about 30 minutes worth of questions he asks on the phone before he considers driving out to look at it. The more "I dunno" answers he gets the less likely he is to go look at it. If he gets the feeling that the seller is BSing him he passes. He asks things like what brand of fuel/oil/air filters are used, what brand of oil, receipts for any work done, how long the seller has owned it, etc.

There is a 1992 W250 on CL near me for $10k but it has been pretty "modified" and I hate trying to figure out what the PO did. It also has a 6" lift on it which is a no go for me.

Better luck next time man.

Tough break. That is the gamble we take though.

A year ago I bought two trucks in the Dallas area. An '84 Chevy C30 3+3, and a '92 W250. The dodge was the main goal, the Chevy was just extra. I wasn't too happy about the C30's condition, not as nice as it looked in the pictures but I had already put a deposit down and was committed.

Anyway, I flew into DFW at 9am on a Saturday and drove this train 1000 miles home to eastern Kentucky at 60mph (didn't want to burn up the OD so I kept it in 3rd). With a few issues it took me about 25 hours to get home.
