Re:Need Some Advice

The prices seem a tad high to me. I'd try to get at least 1k off either truck unless they are absolutely perfect. Find out if the '91 is intercooled. That's worth a bit, since you'd be hard pressed to add an intercooler for less than $800. For a point of reference, I just paid $4600 for a similarly equipped 2wd dually with 210k in pretty good shape. I'd guess 4wd is worth $1000 to $1500, so if you can get 1k off, you're doing great.

Re:Need Some Advice

I was going to buy my old 89 4x4 back from the guy that has it and give it to my son. The guy wanted $7000 but that was with the dump bed insert I had put in it a few years earlier. I called the credit union just to see what it was worth and the most they would give on it was $3500 and were real hesitant about that ( I wasn't going to finance anyway).
These trucks are pretty much location/market driven if that makes sense. They will bring more if in an area where there are not many. Those trucks with that mileage are pretty much worthless from a financing standpoint but if properly taken care of, will last a long time yet.
Just me talking here but you should be able to get either one for around $5000.

Re:Need Some Advice

I paid $6500 for my '91 with 206k on it. I probably could have gotten it for $6k, but it was the first truck I had seen for sale in good shape that was a 4x4 5speed. That was a year ago, though, and I have seen a couple for sale in my area (western MA) since then. If I had properly diagnosed the extensive rust under the visor over the windshield, I would have knocked it down to $5k or so . . . beware, I hear this is a problem on some of these trucks around '91, and what looked like good paint was, just there was no metal under it.

So, I think the prices are high, but in the ball-park.

Good luck!

Re:Need Some Advice

FWIW. Around here a first gen with 100-150,000 miles, and is in good shape, will cost between $6,500 - $12,500 depending upon year, etc. I paid more toward the top end of the scale for mine three years ago.

Mike
Re:Need Some Advice

Personally I wouldn't be overly concerned about the mileage. The motor in these trucks will outlast the body. I would check for rust, the transmission, stearing box, brakes and overall condition of the truck. If you are going to "bomb" the truck go with one that is intercooled. I purchased my truck in 1992 and I was considering selling it to purchase a 2002 and I turned down $18,500 Can. If these truck are in good shape they retain their value and clean and well maintained trucks are nearly impossible to find.

Re:Need Some Advice

Intercooled alone is worth some bucks.... BUT.... have the intercooler pressure tested before you buy it for the intercooler.
As it is right now there are no longer new OEM intercoolers being made, and any existing ones will be darn hard to find and pricey to boot...

unless it has one of these things
repainted,
bombed,
has a great stereo,
fancy rims and big tires

it's over priced. I paid $4100 for mine, had some dents but no rust at the time (fall 2002) the doglegs have rust now.

for a clean bone stocker, I'd say $5000 is an upper limit around here. rusty ones with 200k can be had for under $2500 if you look

Re:Need Some Advice

There you go. Goes back to what I said earlier, depends on availibility and market (the law of supply and demand). A commodity, no matter what it is, is only worth what the buyer is willing to pay. He could ask $50k for it but normally he wouldn't get it.
