It could be that the secondary paint codes you're finding are referring to something like wheel color, stripe color, or even interior color, not necessarily a 2-tone paint job. I found some of the colors listed in this thread on the Dupont Refinishing website, and some of them match up to trim colors.
I'm not sure, maybe someone can educate us, but if the trucks were built in multiple factories - ones that also turned out Jeep, Chrysler, or Eagle products - they could have picked up the first letter of the paint code from that line. For example, W7 is white. QW7 is a Jeep white and PW7 is a Dodge white. Some of the trucks could have picked up a Jeep paint code - That make any sense?
Also, some paint codes have "alternates" meaning they had a slightly different tint during the same model year. Not a big deal if you're doing an overall paint job but certainly critical if you're doing a spot repair. This could also be the "secondary"; maybe the factory printed all applicable paint codes & alternates for the model year at the time the truck was built.
