Make sure the wire on the fuel shutoff solenoid is tight these have a habit of coming loose.
If you have access to an air compressor stuff a rag in the fuel filler and SLIGHTLY pressurize the fuel tank while someone looks for leaks. You can have a bad line that will suck air but not leak until you put some pressure to it. If you live where rust is a problem be sure to check the steel lines as well as the rubber. The fuel filter screws to a fuel heater and the o ring gaskets tend to leak when they get old so check there for leaks. that should give you a start.

After a couple of inconvenient flame outs, I took the tab off the FSS, and soldered ring terminals on the feed line and the KSB line that go on that terminal, and screwed them down down directly to the valve.

if you don't think you're sucking air the first thing i'd do is change the fuel filter. only a few ways to kill these old girls, bad fuel is one of them

"It's still doing the same thing"… means cranking but not starting?
Or no crank?

Have you checked the FSS as previously suggested?

I think you are confusing the fuel shut off lever for the FSS, the lever is a purely mechanical shtutoff, the FSS does the same thing electrically.

Here is a picture, you want to make sure the connector is on tight and you have 12V there when it it trying to run.

I would buy new lines and new clamps and re-do the old lines.
Cheap enough to do and should fix any leaks.
